Third voltage regulator and 8th headlight bulb.?
This is my third volt. reg. and 8th headlight bulb on this brand new Sunny JL50QT-8. Nobody in my area will even look at this bike for two reasons... 1) They didn't sell me the piece of junk and, 2) Sunny and/or their parent won't pay their bills. They don't answer emails either.
There are no broken, stripped, or melted wires... The only bulb burning out is the headlight. I've about had it with this piece of crap.
When getting replace parts from Scooter Depot... I've got to jump through hoops for a week before They'll send them to me. I will never buy another Asian made scooter again.
I'm thinking about adding a voltage reducer switch (Similar to an audio volume control.) between the volt.reg. and the headlight bulb and the headlight switch. Please advise.
Why not do this supply the headlight bulb it's own brand new ground or negative wire and run it to a clean solid ground surface using a wire o-ring connector , then run a brand new wire to the positive battery post , attache a fuse to this wire near the battery , then run it to a switch that is rated for a good 15 amps.Normally if it's a toggle switch that has 3 positions when the switch is in the top position the lower switch post is where you connect up the headlight bulb positive wire to and the middle post is where the fused battery feed wire connects up to.You're idea of placing an adjustable or variable control in the circuit might help but you'll loose headlight brightness too.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way from what you're are saying and from my electrical experience it's really best to do as I suggest and totally by pass their circuit even it's just as a test and then see if the voltage regulator goes but be sure that you use the right gauge or thickness of wire and wiring made for automobiles, plus make sure that all the connections are solid etc. Otherwise you might have to find another replacement voltage regulator that has a higher amp output bec there are some universal or replacement voltage regulators out there that if wired up right should work. Also I do recommend that you check all the grounds on it bec a faulty wire or ground that is corroded or rusted can cause surges, plus wiring can rot or rust internally and you might not be able to tell that the wiring is faulty.
One last suggestion make sure that the voltage regulator has solid connections and the same goes for the battery also even a bad headlight bulb socket can cause bulbs to blow etc and you might want to trace and feel any wiring to see if any of it is getting hot or shorting out.No1 rule is bad grounds cause most problems and poor connections also if any circuit is to blow or act up it's usually the weakest part and to me the bulb would be the weakest link or easiest part to blow.
