modding an electric scooter, advice please!?
hello, today i bought a E-Scooter from my neighbor for 20 dollars, nothing very bad with it, still runs well, as iv seen it being riden around by his kid. now the only issue is that it needs a new battery. no thats not my question. Its an electric scooter, in its current form it cant drive far with the bad battery and with my size. I have heard about people modding their mopeds and scooters with gas engines rather than electric motors. I intend to invest in a cheap engine, maybe from a moped or somethin. Whats my best avenue, should i get a stronger electric motor or a gas type. this scooter may become a means to get around and id want something nice and fast if possible, plus i plan on updating its cheapo gauges with more accurate ones.
if any of you have done something similar, please give me advice.
thank you
The things you'll need to be sure of are 1 that a new engine will fit on the bike in a place that you can attach the chain/belt to the rear wheel,. this could be tricky for a gas engine where an electric was...
and 2 that it has the same sort of drive system. I know a lot of electrics have belt drives and that wont match up with the chain sprockets on most gas engines.
it gets especially difficult if you've got a full size scooter with all the fairings and lights blinkers etc. because then you've got to work out an electrical system from the engine to power all of that and you've got to mount the new engine in the limited space under the fairing.
if you do want to put in a gas engine try the little motors from those pocket motorcycles - they're pretty compact and could get you going at least 30.
Honestly I don't imagine it's a worthwhile use of time and money trying to convert. I'd just get a bicycle.
also - they make kits to motorize a bicycle that run around 100 bucks - that could work on your scooter or on a bike and are pretty universal and fairly easy to do.
anyways good luck.
