Black smoke is coming out of the muffler of my one-week-old 150cc Ricardo Touring Scooter.?

I just changed the oil in it yesterday (the factory oil from China seemed to be low quality). I had to use 10-40 four-stroke motorcycle oil instead of the recommended 10-30 four-stroke motorcycle oil (I couldn't find the 10-30 in my small town).

Could the 10-40 oil be causing the dark smoke coming out of the muffler? Could either 10-30 or synthetic oil get rid of the problem?

The scooter only has 40 miles on it, and seems to be running fairly well. Could using the 10-40 oil damage the engine?

Black smoke usually indicates that an engine is running rich or not burning all the fuel in a cylinder. Oil usually burns with a gray-white smoke. I would try to find the recommended oil, 10-30 oil is not hard to find, the synthetic oil should not be a problem.
